Velvet Red metallic was the nicest color in the 2002-2003 R50 MINI Cooper. It is beautiful. Too bad MINI has not made anything quite like it again. For that reason alone, I would keep the car.
I would say that for a car with nearly 200K under its belt, it looks pretty good.
There is another gent here in the US with a 2002 R50 Cooper with over 234K miles. He posts (Or did post) over at MINI2.com.
Thanks! I would agree about the color, but NightFire red was pretty dang close. That color, with a silver roof on an R50 was very very nice and dare I say, maybe even a little more sporty than the VR.
I’m not the highest mileage MINI out there. There is also a guy in Florida with over 200k. I was about #10 for 100K, I think I’ll be there for 200 as well. Which should be happening in about 2 or 3 months (fingers crossed, touch wood)
I think you are referring to the short lived “Solar Red metallic” offered in the 2006 R50 Cooper. I agree it was the second best alternative to Velvet Red and with the pure silver roof was incredible!
I don’t think I have seen a Solar Red MINI in over 6 months… They are very rare.
I believe Dave Bunting still owns his. Gorgeous car!
